Import and export of sulfuric acid in China from January to May 2024

(1) Sulfuric acid export

According to Chinese customs statistics, China exported 870000 tons of sulfuric acid from January to May 2024, an increase of 53000 tons or 6.5 percent over the same period last year, and the average export price was 21.5 US dollars per ton, an increase of 3.9 US dollars per ton or 22.0 percent over the same period last year.

In May, 130000 tons of sulfuric acid were exported, down 31.0 percent year-on-year and up 137.6 percent month-on-month; the average export price was 25.6 US dollars/ton, up 6.6 percent year-on-year and 35.0 percent month-on-month.

From January to May 2024, the top three countries in China's sulfuric acid exports are Chile (459000 tons), India (142000 tons) and Morocco (81000 tons), accounting for 78.4 of the total export volume of sulfuric acid to these three countries. According to the statistics of provinces (places where enterprises are registered), the top three provinces for export are Jiangsu (437000 tons), Guangxi (248000 tons) and Shanghai (93000 tons).

(2) Sulfuric acid import

According to Chinese customs statistics, China imported 81000 tons of sulfuric acid from January to May 2024, a decrease of 73000 tons or 47.3 percent from the same period last year. Excluding high-priced acids, the average import price was US $38.8/ton, an increase of US $20.2/ton or 108.4 per cent over the same period last year.

Imported 19000 tons of sulfuric acid in May, down 51.2 percent year-on-year and up 128.4 percent month-on-month. Excluding high-priced acids, the average import price was US $44.0/ton, up 147.0 per cent year-on-year and down 33.0 per cent month-on-month.

From January to May 2024, sulfuric acid was mainly imported from South Korea (78000 tons) and Taiwan (3000 tons).
