Production and Operation of China's Sulfuric Acid Industry in 2022

The total production capacity of sulfuric acid was 0.1296 billion t, up 1.3 percent year-on-year; the total production capacity was 8.19 million t, down 5.9 percent year-on-year; and the total new production capacity was 3.811 million t, down 5.4 percent year-on-year. The total output of sulfuric acid was 0.107 billion t, down 2.2 per cent year-on-year, accounting for 34.9 per cent of the global total output of sulfuric acid; the average operating rate was 82.6 per cent, down 2.9 percentage points year-on-year. The output of sulfuric acid is mainly distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hubei and other phosphorus resources, as well as Anhui, Inner Mongolia, Guangxi, Henan and other areas with large smelting capacity, and East China with developed industry. In 2022, China exported 3.643 million t of sulfuric acid, up 28.3 percent year-on-year, and the average export price was $116.8/t, up 28.2 percent year-on-year. In 2022, China's sulfuric acid imports 275000 t, down 33.5 percent year-on-year; excluding high-priced acids, the average import price was $89.8/t, up 13.2 percent year-on-year.
